ORANGE COUNTY CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT SERVICES

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a pediatrician for a full-time faculty position at the Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Professor level to serve as a child abuse and neglect and forensic pediatric specialist. The core responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:
Provide forensic medical examinations and oversee forensic medical services provided by Orange County Healthcare Agency;
Provide consultation on suspected and reported child abuse and neglect cases to hospitals, physicians, social workers and criminal justice officials, and
Work with the medical care system to provide outreach and education and build the capacity and consistency of child abuse and neglect identification, evaluation, reporting and forensic examinations throughout Orange County.

Clinical activities will primarily be centered at the Child Abuse Services Team (CAST) site which is a dynamic, non-hospital based NCA accredited, child advocacy center with multidisciplinary teams members onsite (www.oc.ca.gov/cast/home). It is a collaborative program operated by the Orange County Social Services Agency, Healthcare Agency and the District Attorney’s Office. Enhancement of medical care services throughout the County will be done in collaboration with CAST, the UCI Irvine Department of Pediatrics, CHOC Children’s and other community partners. The Medical Director will report to the Chair, UC Irvine Department of Pediatrics and receive direction from Orange County Healthcare Agency managers for the medical services at CAST and program development.

The successful candidate must have an MD or equivalent degree, be a Board Certified Pediatrician and be eligible for licensure in California. The candidate should have at least 4 years general pediatrics experience beyond residency or 2 years with a fellowship related to child abuse and neglect. The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of child abuse and neglect and have appropriate experience and skills in forensic medical examinations, courtroom testimony and medical education. Experience in administration, collaborative activities and community outreach are desirable.
