The Department of Pediatrics, Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, has an opening for a full time Executive Director at the faculty rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. The University of Colorado Denver, School of Medicine, invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect (Kempe Center). The Kempe Center has built a reputation as a world leader in the field of child abuse and neglect since the first Child Protection Team was established in 1958 and the Center became a Section in the Department of Pediatrics in 1972. The Executive Director will lead the research, clinical, education and policy/advocacy efforts of the Kempe Center, and foster strong collaborations within the campus and across local and national communities involved in the field of child abuse and neglect. The Executive Director will ensure that the growth and direction of the Center meet Department of Pediatrics expectations for clinical, research, academic and educational excellence.

The successful applicant will have a primary faculty appointment with duties and responsibilities in the Department of Pediatrics. The position will provide major opportunities for leadership, mentorship, scholarship, and teaching, working with a broad base of faculty focused on research, clinical, educational, service, advocacy and policy development. The Department of Pediatrics ranked first among all medical school-based Departments of Pediatrics in NIH awards during 2008. The Executive Director is charged with overseeing management and leadership of the Kempe Center's multidisciplinary programs, and fostering innovative program development. The Executive Director should be able to recognize and articulate the current and salient issues in the child maltreatment field from a national and international perspective, and bring an established area of specialized interest to further develop at the Center. Qualifications include a record of excellence, leadership and financial support in research, clinical, education and/or policy/advocacy work in the area of child maltreatment or a closely related field. The Executive Director serves as primary liaison to the Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine and The Children's Hospital.
