General Pediatrician with Expertise in Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect
Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Division of General Pediatric Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and IWK Health Centre is seeking a full-time academic General Pediatrician with expertise in Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect.  The successful candidate will hold a clinical continuing appointment at a rank commensurate with academic qualifications.  He/she will join a multidisciplinary Child Protection Team with 2 other pediatricians, and an active Division of nine General Pediatricians.

The IWK Health Centre provides tertiary Pediatric care for the three Canadian Maritime Provinces and secondary care for children in Nova Scotia.  The IWK Child Protection Team is a hospital-based, child-focused, multi-disciplinary team that works closely with community child welfare agencies.  The Team sees children throughout the Maritimes if they are referred to the IWK.  The Division of General Pediatric Medicine is responsible for inpatient care of about 1300 children per year, and ambulatory care for about 1700.

Halifax, the largest city in Atlantic Canada, offers an attractive maritime environment and an enviable lifestyle.  Many desirable living areas are within walking distance or a few minutes drive from Dalhousie University, the IWK Health Centre, and a variety of leisure activities.

The predominant criteria for appointment are a major commitment to clinical care with a significant commitment to research and/or teaching.  Candidates must hold FRCPC qualifications, or the equivalent, in Pediatrics, plus additional specific training in Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect.

Interested applicants should submit a CV as well as send a statement outlining their teaching and research interests.  They should have three letters of reference sent under separate cover directly to the Chair of the Search Committee.  At least 2 of these references must come from academic referees.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however; Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.  Dalhousie University is an Employment Equity/Affirmative Action employer.  The University encourages applications from qualified Aboriginal people, persons with a disability, racially visible persons and women.
