Child Abuse Resource and Evaluation Team
The CARE Team at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas is
seeking a second BC/BE Pediatrician with fellowship training and /or significant
experience in the evaluation and treatment of child maltreatment to join our
team. The position includes an academic appointment at
Texas
A & M
University. This full-time faculty position will
provide you with an excellent opportunity to be a member of a highly energetic
team committed to providing child abuse diagnostic and treatment services of the
highest caliber. The CARE Team is a well established program recognized in the
region that provides 24/7 inpatient and outpatient medical forensic evaluations
for 1300 children annually who are suspected victims of child maltreatment. The
CARE Team includes: a fulltime fellowship trained Forensic Pediatrician, four
Forensic Nurse Examiners, five Medical Social Workers, a Clinical Coordinator
and a medical secretary. The CARE Team is supported by the hospital
administration as well as a complete compliment of hospital specialists.
As the regional child abuse resource and evaluation center of
excellence, the team participates in local/regional multidisciplinary teams,
chairs the regional child fatality review team, and provides professional
training to multidisciplinary partners as well as providing fact and expert
testimony in civil, criminal and federal court cases.
This position focuses primarily on clinical services, undergraduate and graduate
medical education, but also includes time for clinical research and program
development. The ideal candidate possesses outstanding clinical and teaching
skills and is viewed as a child advocate. Candidates should be qualified through
fellowship training or experience to take the exam for the Certificate of
Special Qualifications in Child Abuse Pediatrics which will be offered for the
first time in 2009.

the care of children in a 33 counties and 31,000 square miles of

Hospital is a tertiary care 189 bed regional referral center offering a medical
staff comprised of pediatric board-certified specialists in more than 30
medical and 10 surgical specialties. Every year more than 6,500 children are
admitted for inpatient care, 6,000 patients for
day
surgery, and 65,000 children for
outpatient primary and specialty care. Driscoll was the first hospital in South Texas to provide
emergency services exclusively for children and today we provide
emergency care to more than 40,000 children a year. Driscoll was also the first
hospital in south Texas
to perform an
organ transplant.
