Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Department of Pediatrics announce the availability of a new 1-2 year Fellowship Program in Child Abuse Pediatrics. The fellowship program provides comprehensive training to pediatricians interested in improving their clinical, research, and advocacy skills in the care of maltreated children.

The Fellow will be involved in the clinical care of abused children, including court appearance, research in the field of abuse, education of medical personnel, and the multidisciplinary approach to caring for abused children and their families. Inpatient and outpatient care will be provided on site at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and the Fellow will participate in other off-site experiences which will familiarize them with the full array of allied activities, such as mental health assessment and therapy; forensic interviewing; child protective services; child fatality review; forensic autopsy; criminal and civil prosecution of child abuse, prevention programs and legislative advocacy. The Fellow will be expected to actively participate in generating and disseminating new knowledge and implementing educational curricula for residents and medical students. Plans are underway for the expansion of the Fellowship in preparation for Board subspecialty certification.
