The Ohio State University College of Medicine, in conjunction with the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Columbus Children’s Hospital, announces the availability of a 2-year Fellowship Program in Child Abuse Pediatrics for the next academic year beginning July, 2007.  The Center for Child and Family Advocacy is a state of the art, multidisciplinary effort which provides comprehensive intervention and prevention services for the treatment and support of abused children and victims of domestic violence (www.columbuschildadvocacy.org).  The Child Assessment Team evaluates an estimated 1400 children each year in the outpatient and inpatient settings.  Children’s Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and the tertiary children’s hospital for the 37 county region of Central Ohio. 

The fellowship program was established in 2004, and provides training to physicians who are interested in an academic career in the care of maltreated children.  Clinical training includes evaluation and management of all areas of child maltreatment, as well as development of an expertise in understanding the dynamics of family violence and child and family advocacy.  In addition, the fellowship training experience includes exposure and training in the areas of child protection systems, mental health assessments, prosecution of child abuse including skill development of court testimony, child fatality review team, and forensic pathology.  Fellows will also receive training in teaching and research skills including coursework in research methodology, and develop the necessary administrative skills for an academic career.  Fellowship Details
